At the request of the Tshwane Nature Conservation, full technical and ecological assessments were conducted on the Bronkorstspruit Dam.
Types of water grass and reeds found in the Dam are problematic and the situation will deteriorate further as some fish species that could contain the grass and reeds were not present or small in numbers, in the netting of the specimen fish species and re - introduction of other species of fish balance can be restored.
As noted from the Technical and Ecological Assessment results, short and long term actions need to be taken in order to address the imbalances of the dams’ eco-systems.
In order to redress the balance of the fish species found, certain species in dams will need to be drastically reduced, and other species introduced. The impact of netting out and re-stocking is expected to take 2 to 5 years, and will create a number of jobs in the process.
We are not just removing the fish but also replacing the right balance of fish so that the eco-system will have and maintain a balance not only for a short term but also for the future of the surrounding eco-system. By netting we are not only restoring the right balance of aquaculture but also removing unwanted algae and grass.
